Day 29: The How, Not the What

The way I see it, you can capture something we can’t see with our own eyes – like the expression on a bug’s face. That takes a level of skill, a more powerful macro lens than I own, and it can produce fascinating photographs.

Or you can shoot close up to the point of abstraction, which requires creativity and can also produce fascinating photographs — but of a very different kind.

Intensive tidying, especially in my favorite room, has renewed my interests in what I’d set aside.

Here’s an abbreviated tour of my art supplies shot with an Olloclip macro lens and my iPhone — nothing fancy. My focus was not on what we can’t see otherwise; it was on new ways of seeing. The how, not the what.

Appreciating this photography is all about the final visual and not about the original subject matter. I love that.
