Day 1: No Plans

This blog comes not out of tragedy nor personal sacrifice. I tell you this upfront so you won’t assume, as my colleagues did, that my personal leave of absence is cause for sympathy.

Originating from the word Sabbath, a sabbatical is a rest from work, according to definitions I found. I’ll rest, but what’s important is what I’ll accomplish.

Titling this blog has caused me some consternation.

This will be a story about opportunity, pursuit, inspiration and creativity. I know that much. My actual plans? I’m still mapping them out.

On this first day of my two-month LOA, I sit at my desk facing the window while strong winds coat our fall leaves with new snow. I have my lists, clippings and tiny Post-It notes from recent weeks, and I am making a plan. This should be fun.
